  2. Definition • A passage in which words, clauses, or sentences are arranged in an increasing order of importance. • The climax is the last word, clause, or sentence in that passage and therefore the most important information to take from that passage.

Uses • A climax can be used to give a sentence, paragraph, or paper a sense of order, flow, and movement up in importance. • It can be used to emphasize the importance of specific details. • In papers, your ideas can be ordered in a similar sense with your points being expressed in order of growing importance. • In novels a climax is the event at which the problem has been resolved or is set up to be resolved.

  4. Examples • The Mariemont cross country team, typically perform well in their Saturday races, they have won a number of meets, they are back-to-back league champions, and have performed well at the regional and state level. • Mariemont High School is a good academic school, it offers a number of challenging classes, it has produced many top scores on standardized tests, and it has been awarded a blue ribbon for academic excellence nationally.
