Climax. Climax. Definition : The turning point in the action (also known as the “crisis”) and/or the highest point of interest or excitement. Climax Example : Pinocchio is transformed into a donkey and sold into labor before he saves Geppetto and proves himself worthy of being a real boy.

  4. Other Examples of Climax • Romeo and Juliet – When Romeo challenges Tybalt to a duel • Huckleberry Finn – When Tom and Huck break Jim out of jail

  5. Function of Climax • Helps readers understand the significance of the rising action earlier to the point in the plot where the conflict reaches its peak. • Makes readers mentally prepared for resolution of the conflict. • Is important to plot structure of a story. • Is used as a stylistic device or a figure of speech • to render balance and brevity to speech or writing. • Being properly employed, • it qualifies itself as a powerful tool • that can instantly claim the undivided attention of the listeners and readers alike. • Its importance cannot be underestimated.

  6. Homework • Write down five examples of climax from books or movies you have seen. • Pass them in next class.
