What is going on? Before Charging Where do these negative and positive charges come from?
Polythene is an insulator , so retains the negative charge. After Charging Can you explain what happens to the polythene rod when you rub it with the cloth?
The negatively charged electrons on the strip, attract the positive charge on the paper.
Electrostatic Induction The electrons in the paper are repelled by the strip and move away. This makes the top side positively charged so it is attracted to the strip!
Electric Shocks If you walk on a nylon carpet (or another good insulator), electrons will be rubbed from your feet onto the carpet due to friction. If you then touch a metal, some of the electrons move onto you, and you get a shock!!
