  1. Solubility Rules

  2. Solubility rules soluble insoluble sodium potassium ammonium nitrates acetates chlorates chlorides except for silver lead mercury sulfates except for calcium barium strontium lead sodium except for carbonates potassium phosphates ammonium silicates group I cations except for sulfides group II cations

  3. Solubility Rules different version • Group I cations and ammonium are soluble. • Nitrates, acetates, and chlorates are soluble. • Halides are soluble EXCEPT for Ag+, Pb2+, Hg2+ • Sulfates are soluble EXCEPT Ba2+, Sr2+, Ca2+, Hg22+, Pb2+ • Sulfides are insoluble EXCEPT Ca2+, Sr2+ and Group I cations. • Hydroxide compounds are insoluble EXCEPT for Group I cations, Ca(OH) 2, Sr(OH) 2, Ba(OH)2 • Everything else is considered insoluble.

  4. Dissociation equations Show dissociation of ions in solution If the substance is not soluble, it will not dissociate

  5. NH4NO3 (s)  NH4+ + NO3- CaSO4 (s) insoluble Sr(NO3)2 (s) Sr2+ + 2 NO3- PbSO4 (s)  insoluble KC2H3O2 (s) K+ + C2H3O2- AlCl3 (s) Al3+ + 3 Cl- AgCl (s) insoluble
