  2. Tremendous Need for STEM Graduates • Pressure on President and congress to train and retain foreign nationals • Why not US citizens • Because not enough are being trained via k-12 and higher ed! • STEM Related Grads Are Well Paid! • Layoff Resistant

  3. How to Get Kids Into STEM? • STEM must be exciting • STEM must stimulate imagination • STEM must give purpose • STEM must take students places • STEM must be cool!

  4. The 3 Year Olds Are On the Way! • Never before has so much technology been so easily accessible by so many. • Teachers • Students 4

  5. Why is this SO Important? • Students can take control of their education • Learn at any pace – any subject • Advance to any level • No longer dependent on the SYSTEM • Good teacher/bad teacher • Good school/bad school • STEM Resources are Plentiful

  6. Take a Class ANYWHERE • In the classroom, at home, in the field • Audio, video, images, text, interactive • Powerful, easy, very versatile • Instrumentation available

  7. The MOST Important Things a Teacher Can Do! • Convince students that they can have the future they want • That learning can be fun • That it is a lifelong pursuit • Show students that their mobile learning platform opens the world to them • Give them STEM projects / challenges

  8. Management and Support • What is the Tech Support Department responsible for? • Mobile Device Manager • Apple, others • What is the end user responsible for? • What about the teacher? • Training Teachers • Circles NOT Rows

  9. Equity Issues • District provided equipment • Network access at home • Sometimes it’s not safe to take equipment home

  10. Money to Make it Happen • Stop buying PCs – NOW • Save • On Hardware, software and support • Gradually implement • Seek grants, use SPLOST, etc.
