  3. The plot starts with a birth of a small child. His mother dies, so he is an orphan. For his first 9 years, he grows up in a workhouse. When he is 9 years old, he gets to learning to become a gravedigger, but his helpers beat him, so he flees to London. • In London, he gets to a band of thieves, and he helps them against his will (vůle in CZ). One day, when they have got their thief action, Oliver faints, and one good woman takes him to her care.

  4. After few weeks, she sends him for some books, and the leader of the thieves kidnaps him, because they want him for the next action. In this action Oliver is shot by a pistol, and the owners of the house, which is the target take him to their care. Oliver tell them his story. The owners of the house get information, that in the band of thieves there is Oliver‘s brother, who wants to kill Oliver for the heritage from their father. • In the end, the judge listens to Oliver’s story and takes his brother to prison. After that, the owners adopt Oliver, so he isn‘t an orphan anymore.

  5. Like/dislike • Like – interesting story - I can imagine life in their time - effects on feelings (hungry children,…) - something like a dictionary in the endofthe book • Dislike – I think it is a book for people more advanced in English, and sometimes hard to understand the whole plot
