Amending the Constitution

Amending the U.S. Constitution is a structured process that requires careful consideration and broad consensus. Firstly, Congress must propose an amendment, which then needs to be approved by 2/3 of both the Senate and the House of Representatives. Next, the proposed amendment is sent to the states, where state legislatures decide whether to ratify or reject it. For an amendment to be officially added, at least 3/4 of the states must ratify. This extensive process ensures that changes reflect the will of a vast majority, preventing small groups from unilaterally altering the Constitution.
