  1. The Path to Knowing God Servants Preparation Course Class #1 September 10, 2013

  2. Difference between knowing aboutGod and knowingGod. • Read Matthew 7:21-23 • Read John 17:3

  3. Read Song 1:8 • In the beginning, what were the followers of Christ called? They were called disciples. How Can I Experience God?

  4. And when it was day, He called His disciples to Himself; and from them He chose twelve whom He also named apostles. Luke 6:13 • Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a complaint against the Hebrews by the Hellenists, because their widows were neglected in the daily distribution. 2 Then the twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, “It is not desirable that we should leave the word of God and serve tables… Acts 6:1-2 • And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch. Acts 11:26

  5. Every Christian is a disciple. If you are not a disciplethen you are not a Christian! • Read Isaiah 50:4-5

  6. Read Luke 2:40 • Read Luke 2:46-47 • Read Luke 2:51-52 • My responsibility is to grow.

  7. A Disciple must be humble. “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” 1 Peter 5:5 • How do I start? A disciple must ask questions. Characteristics/virtues of a Disciple

  8. A Disciple must be faithful. (He wakens me morning by morning) • He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much. Luke 16:10. Characteristics/virtues of a Disciple

  9. A Disciple must be obedient.(I was not rebellious nor did I turn away) • 22 So Samuel said: “Has the Lordas great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams.23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord,Healso has rejected you from being king.” (1 Samuel 15:22-23) Characteristics/virtues of a Disciple

  10. 17Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you. Hebrews 13:17 Obedience

  11. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, Phil. 2:8-9 The Perfect Example

  12. “I am indeed a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, Acts 22:3 • “And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word.” Luke 10:39 The Place of a Disciple
