  4. Simulation Directions • 1st 5 minutes of class • SHOW ME YOUR HW • 2nd 40 minutes today • People on the outside, have your Simulation Packet out to fill out • Questions 1B, 1C, 1E, 1F, 2B, 2C, 3B, 3C, 4B, 4C • People on the inside, be prepared to debate for 10 minutes in the fish bowl

  5. Graded Discussion • Mr. Biniukow will only serve as a facilitator and moderator, to ensure that each student has an equal and fair opportunity to participate in the discussion. • Mr. Biniukow will also serve as an assessor, to record the statements of the students and assign points.

  6. Issue Format • Representative should announce the vote from their group • Discuss in your fish bowl for 10 minutes • Have a final vote on the issue

Graded Discussion cont • Points can be earned for the following: • 1 point for making a statement which refocuses or redirects the group back to the original question. • 2 point for responding directly to the question posed by the teacher. • 2 points for responding directly to a classmate by paraphrasing and then elaborating. • 2 points for sharing a confusing point or idea in an articulate manner. • 2 points for using specific data/detail in his/her statement. • 3 points for asking a new question that is related to the current topic. • 3 points for helping another student to understand a concept or idea. • 3 points for creating a brand new idea (coherent and relevant) during the discussion

Graded Discussion cont • Points can be deducted for the following: • 0 points for repeating what someone else said without adding a new idea/thought/piece of info • -1 point for talking while someone else is talking; or interrupting someone • -1 point for making a simplistic statement • -2 points for ridiculing another student during the seminar • -2 points for other behavior that inhibits the ability of others to learn

  12. Issue #3 What to do with the Middle East? • Should the Big 3 keep the Sykes-Picot agreement and let GB & France rule these newly created countries temporarily? • If no, then the Arabs rule their own lands after WWI

  13. Issue #4 Self- Determination • Should the Big 3 give Italy the land that it is asking for, even if it may not agree with Self-Determination? If the Italians are not satisfied, they may leave the conference, making the Big 3 look bad
