Population Facts • The first billion took from the dawn of humanity until 1830. • The second billion took only 100 years -- from 1830 to 1930. • Three billion more arrived in the next 60 years. • The next billion will take only 13 years (yes, just 13 years!) • Every second 5 people are born and 2 people die, a net gain of 3 people • The world’s population is growing by 200,000 people a day.

  7. Population Distribution:(Where people live) 90 % of the World’s population is in the northern hemisphere. 50% live in cities. 50% lives in Asia, it is about 20% of earth’s land area.

Soo… what is our world population density? • World Population density is 34.5per sq. mile • Mumbai-29,650 people/sq. mile • India- Most Dense Country in the World • Mongolia – least dense country--- • has only about 4 people/ sq. mile • U.S. has about 81 people/ sq. mile • Missouri 85.3 people/sq mile

Movement • Internal Migration: Movement within a country. • Urbanization: movement from farms and villages to cities. • The global proportion of urban population rose dramatically from 13% (220 million) in 1900 to 29% (732 million) in 1950 to 49% (3.2 billion) in 2005. The projected figure is likely to rise to 60% (4.9 billion) by 2030
