English term : Pidgins

Pidgins are simplified languages that emerge in multilingual contexts, often mixing elements of English, Dutch, or Portuguese with local languages. While sometimes regarded derogatorily as "broken language," pidgins also embody a rich cultural heritage, reflecting the interactions among diverse communities. They typically facilitate communication in trade and other interactions between people who do not share a common language. For instance, pidgins are prevalent in places like Hawaii and Papua New Guinea, showcasing how language evolves through cultural contact.
