  1. Youth Conference Follow-Up Meeting • A Pastoral Application of the Apocalypse

  2. Sources • Main Idea from an Evangelical Bible for Teens linking a large gathering of Christians to the Heavenly City. • Also, Dr. Scott Hahn’s The Lamb’s Supper

  3. Uses for This Talk • Follow-Up Meeting to • World Youth Day • Youth Group attending March for Life, particularly hosted by Catholic University • Steubenville Youth Conference

  4. Wasn’t That a Great Conference? • Good Talks • Good Music • Nice to Get away • But for most, the great gift was to see that many (thousands) fellow Christians worshipping together • Which Should remind us of . . .

  5. Heavenly City • St. John said: I had a vision of a great multitude, which no one could count, from every nation, race, people, and tongue. They stood before the throne and before the Lamb, wearing white robes and holding palm branches in their hands. They cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation comes from our God, who is seated on the throne, and from the Lamb.” Apocalypse/Revelation 7:9-10

  6. Communion of Saints • The Church has three Branches or stages. • The Church militant or the Pilgrim Church. Us, here and now. • The Church penitent: souls which have died, now preparing for heaven through purgatory • The Church Triumphant: those already, fully enjoying God’s presence

  7. How/Where/When can we enjoy this Communion of Saints? • First Place: MASS and Holy Communion • Also . . . • Prayer • Fellowship • Music? Communion of Saints as a Fuzzy Cartoon

  8. Yes, Music!! • The saints sing!!! • Apocalypse 5:12; “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing” • Apocalypse 4:8; “Holy, Holy, Holy”

  9. Composers • Following the Saints, composers through the centuries have written music for these beautiful songs. • Georg Friedrich Handel wrote the “Worthy is the Lamb” for his Messiah in 1741. • In our own day, Michael W. Smith composed a song called “Agnus Dei” using the same lyrics. Handel

  10. So, Let’s Go back in Time • We’ll Start with the Present day: Joel Engle playing Michael W. Smith’s “agnus Dei” • Then, Handel’s “Worthy is the Lamb” (I think this is really what they sing in Heaven!) • Finally, the Gregorian Melody for Christ the King

  11. The End (made on a Mac)
