  2. What IS Cervical Cancer? • A cancer that forms in the tissue of the cervix • The lower, narrow part of the uterus is where the cancer is located • The cervix connects the uterus and the vagina

  3. Genes Associated with Cervical Cancer • FHIT (Fragile Histidine Triad) • HLA-DGB1 (Major Histocompatibility complex, Class II, DQ beta 1) • HLA-DRB1 (Major Histocompatibility complex, Class II, DR beta 1)

  4. Symptoms of Cervical Cancer • Bleeding from the vagina outside your menstrual cycle (unusual times) • Pain during sex • Vaginal discharge that is tinged with blood • Pelvic Pain • Pain during urination

  5. Diagnosis of Cervical Cancer • A Pap Test can be used to examine cervical cells • If there are abnormal cell changes within the cervix, you might have it • Biopsy’s can be taken on cancerous or precancerous cells

  7. Cervical Cancer Subtypes • Squamos cell carcinoma (about 80%-85% of women are affected by this) • Adenocarcinoma (about 15% of women in the UK are affected) • Small cell carcinoma • Adenosquamos carcinomas
