  1. What is this book About?

  2. Prejudice

  3. Whats Prejudice? • Dictionary Version: • “An unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason.” • “This is how prejudice starts.. with something small that gets passed on and manipulated and twisted until it is made into something big and and unaccepted into normal life.” Group version: Presli:Judging someone before you know them based on their look. Tiffani: Disliking someone by the way they act or disliking them because the way everyone else sees that social group.

  4. What you thought...

  5. BLOGGING! “I would say today their is a lot of racism but I think more people do it as jokes more than seriously. No matter how much time goes by racism will always be around.” -Angus “A lot of people don’t even realize they are prejudice because they were probably brought up that way” -Emmerz “I don't think that people should be degraded upon just because they are wealthy or are African American or Native or Chinese or what ever their race happens to be. I think we need to do exactly what the Declaration of Independence says, “All Men Are Created Equal.” -Freakyfun08 “But what is prejudice, prejudice is pretty much just a prejudgment of some one with out even really knowing that person.” -Pretzelpocketz

  6. Tom Robinson • He is the black man in the story accused for rape. • Symbolizes the mockingbird…Innocence destroyed by evil.

  7. “But as the case carried on it became clear to him that it was a lie. He realized this when Atticus pointed out that Mayella had been all beaten up on only one side of her body. Tom Robinsons arm was crippled on that side and couldn’t have possibly hit her.”-jess2351 The Trial "Completely Unfair" "Step Up Their Acts to Prejudice" "Guilty...Guilty....Guilty...Guilty."

  8. Opinions Matter • “– all negros lie, all negro men are not to be trusted around our women, an assumption one associates with minds of their calibur. Which, gentlemen, we know in itself a lie as black as Tom Robinson’s skin, a lie i do not have to point out to you. You know the truth, and the truth is this: some negroes lie, some negros are immortal, some negro men are not to be trusted around women- black or white. But this is a truth that applies to the human race and to no particular race of men. There is not a person in this courtroom who has never told a lie, who has never done an immortal thing, and there is no man living who has never looked upon a woman without desire.” -Atticus Finch

  9. Different Types of Prejudice • “hostile attitude toward a person who belongs to a group, simply because he belongs to that group, and is therefore presumed to have the objectionable qualities ascribed to that group” Age Disabled Religion Ethnic Groups Women Sexuality

  10. Ageism • Prejudices against the aged is called ageism. • Get to 49 and it seems you could be "over the hill" - at least that's how many of us perceive it. • From age 55 onwards, people are nearly twice as likely to have experienced age prejudice than any other form of discrimination

  11. Evidence of religious hate crimes throughout history: the Crusades, The Inquisition, various campaigns to destroy “witches“, and the Holocaust. Some people assume that religious people tend to be more close minded towards those who are non-religious. There is a gradual lessening of prejudice in the country. Christianity Judaism Islam Buddhism Mormonism Atheism Religion Types of Religion
