  1. Stewarton Academy Quality Study Habits All pupils at Stewarton Academy are introduced to a range of study techniques across the curriculum.

Progressive PSE programme S1 - Thinking skills, learning profiles S2 - Time management, target setting, Communication skills, Learning profile S3 - effective time management and organisational skills, target setting, learning profile S4 - study skills workshop 1 S5 - study skills workshop 2, stress management and Higher English specific workshop S6 - UCAS personal statement College applications These lessons are delivered by appropriate methodology: teacher led discussions, group work, ICT profile, quizzes and interviews The workshops cover a range of study techniques including mnemonics, summarising, links and setting goals. Across The School Knowing what to study is part of the problem but knowing how to study is part of the solution. In addition to the PSE study skills programme there are study skills focus weeks when pupils focus on study skills in all classes. Subject teachers are encouraged to include study techniques in each lesson across all years.

  3. Pupil Support Pupils review their interim and final reports in PSE classes and set subject specific targets. PT pupil support review interim and final reports and meet with all pupils and parents where appropriate to help identify strategies to enable pupils to reach their potential. PT pupil support liaise with teachers to facilitate early intervention in supporting pupils who are underachieving. Class teachers Supported study is offered at lunchtime and at the end of the day in a range of subjects. Class teachers are best placed to support pupils and offer a range of small group and 1-1 tutorials to all pupils. Stewarton academy promotes a high achievement from all pupils and they are encouraged to ask for help. Peer mentors S6 pupils develop their leadership and communication skills supporting younger pupils across the curriculum.

  4. Supported Study S4 - December S5/6 - January S4 - 6 - April Easter school - Principal teachers identify pupils who are underachieving in their subject and letters are sent to encourage these pupils to attend Easter school. Parental support Presentations are made at parents’ evenings to inform parents of the school study skills programme and how they can support their son/daughter. Glow A study skills glow group has been set up to give pupils and parents greater access to study skills presentations and support material. Working Group The quality study habits working group are responsible for coordinating focus weeks, workshops and supported study.
