  5. Review • The DPAS II framework has three tiers • Components – broad areas of specialist practice and responsibility • Criteria – essential knowledge and skills related to each component • Elements – observable areas of knowledge and skills related to each criterion

  6. What’s new in 2013-2014 related to Criteria? • Opportunity for LEA’s to utilize one less criterion in each Component

  7. Component 1 – Planning and Preparation • Component 1 focuses on how a specialist selects and organizes programs and/or services provided to students. • Component 1 Criteria: • 1a. Designing Coherent Programs or Services Aligned with State and National Standards • 1b. Demonstrating Knowledge of Best Practice and/or Models of Delivery (Optional) • 1c. Demonstrating Knowledge of Students and/or Clients (Optional) • 1d. Demonstrating Knowledge of Resources • 1e. Demonstrating Knowledge of How to Design or Use Assessments

Component 2 – Professional Practice and Delivery of Service • Component 2 focuses on interactions with students/stakeholders that reflect genuine respect and caring for individuals as well as the group. • Component 2 Criteria: • 2a. Creating an Environment to Support Student or Client Needs • 2b. Demonstrating Flexibility and Responsiveness (Optional) • 2c. Communicating Clearly and Accurately (Optional) • 2d. Delivery of Services to Students or Clients

Component 3 – Professional Consultation and Collaboration • Component 3 focuses on how a specialist collaborates, consults, and provides access to resources that will best serve the school community. Component 3 Criteria: • 3a. Collaborating with others (Optional) • 3b. Serving as a Consultant to the School Community (Optional) • 3c. Providing resources and Access • 3d. Maintaining Professional Standards • 3e. Using Assessment Data in Planning and Delivery of Services

  10. Component 4: Professional Responsibilities • Component 4 focuses on the specialist’s duties and professional growth activities. • Component 4 Criteria: • 4a. Communicating with Families/Clients (optional) • 4b. Recording Data in a Student Record System • 4c. Growing and Developing Professionally (optional) • 4d. Reflecting on Professional Practice
