Sentence Structure. Review (hopefully). Every complete sentence has 2 parts…. Subject= noun or pronoun—”thing” sentence is about Predicate= verb or verb phrase and everything after it. The deer runs into the woods. Subject. Predicate. Phrases & Clauses.

  2. Every complete sentence has 2 parts… • Subject= noun or pronoun—”thing” sentence is about • Predicate= verb or verb phrase and everything after it. • Thedeerruns into the woods. Subject Predicate

  3. Phrases & Clauses • A clause is a group of words that contain a subject and predicate. • Independent clause: a complete sentence • Subordinate/dependent clause: a fragment—incomplete sentence. • A phrase is a group of words that contain a subject OR a predicate—never both.

  4. Phrase or Clause • The deer ran into the woods • Running into the store • The man with the white shirt • That are in the classroom. • Jesse & Trevor aced their essays. • When I grow up • I ran • Get your homework done • Because they were done early

  7. Adjective & Adverb Clauses • Adjective clause is a group of words that performs the job of an adjective (it would be a subordinate clause and used as part of a sentence) • Adverb clause is a group of words that performs the job of an adverb (it would also be a subordinate clause)
