Overview of Table Mountain Observatory: A Hub for Environmental Research

The Table Mountain Observatory (TMO), located about 10 miles north of Boulder, is managed by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). It hosts various facilities, including NOAA's Environmental Technology Laboratory, the Air Resources Laboratory, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and the U.S. Geological Survey. The Space Environment Center (SEC) operates a satellite receive facility with three systems and a ground-based magnetometer at TMO. This collaborative site supports important research in environmental monitoring and data collection.

  1. Table Mountain Observatory Jim Abeyta NOAA Space Environment Center Description The Table Mountain Observatory is located approximately 10 miles north of Boulder. The site is managed by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). Other tenants who maintain facilities at TMO include NOAA’s Environmental Technology Laboratory (ETL), Air Resources Laboratory (ARL), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and the U. S. Geological Survey (USGS). SEC maintains and operates a satellite receive facility and a ground based magnetometer at TMO. The satellite receive facility has three satellite receive systems. SEC also receives data from a USGS magnetometer located at TMO.
