Minneapolis • Covers: Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska ,North Dakota and South Dakota • Total GDP for the five states is 577 million and its population is 11.5 million • Territory is home to 27 Fortune 500 companies (UnitedHealth Group, Target, Best Buy, Supervalu, 3M, Medtronic, Berkshire Hathaway, ConAgra Foods, Peter Kiewit, Rockwell Collins) • The Midwest has a strong agriculture and agri-food industry base. It is headquarters to leading technology and medical device firms, as well as several retail giants. The territory contains major transportation hubs and corridors. It is a nexus for ethanol production and initiatives. “Green” policy and sustainable practices are a priority. • Cleantech (bioenergy, wind, solar, green chemistry) • Green building (technology and R&D services) • Life Sciences (medical devices and R&D) • Advanced Manufacturing • Agriculture/Food Processing(including agricultural machinery)

According to the Milken Institute, Colorado ranks 3rd in the State Technology and Science Index. University of Utah surpassed MIT this year and became the U.S. leader in new tech start-ups.
