2. Location Monte Carlo, or commonly known as Monaco or the Principality of Monaco is located in southwest Europe on the Mediterranean coastline between France and Italy. It is the smallest French-speaking city-state in the world
3. Government Monte Carlo is ruled by the Monaco Monarchy, the Grimaldis headed by Prince Albert. 4. Economy Tourism and related businesses are the main components of Monte Carlo’s economy today. The tourist industry began when the famous Monte Carlo Casino was opened in Monte Carlo. Banking and financial activities are the second most important part of the economy. The industrial sector is small but significant and includes pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, flour-milling, and food products. Investment in real estate and business services make up the fourth most important sector of the economy. Monaco does not impose an income tax on its residents and consequently has attracted corporate and individual investment.
5. French is the official language of Monte Carlo, but Italian and English are also spoken frequently. Monegasque, a language derived from both French and Italian and is spoken by native residents of Monaco, although only about 22 percent of the population is from direct Monegasque descent. Language
6. Demography The population of Monaco is around 30,744. Approximately 22 percent are native Monegasque, 35 percent French, 18 percent Italian, the other 25 percent consist of various other nationalities. Roman Catholicism is the main religion, practiced by 95 percent of the population.

8. This garden, set in the heart of Monte Carlo, was designed at the request of H.S.H. Prince Rainier III and designed by Japanese landscape architect Yasuo Beppu, winner of the Osaka Flower Exhibition. Structured in an asymmetrical and quasi-natural way, the garden covers 7000 square meters, of which 1100 square meters is taken up by a man-made lake. The concept of this garden is unusual. It was built on a concrete roof of a coach car park. The buildings, gates, fences, tiles and lanterns were all made in Japan. 9. Thermes Marin Monte Carlo This four story 6,600 square meter spa complex on the Monte Carlo Harbor specializes in wellness and preventive health treatments. With seawater and manual relaxation therapies this spa blends ancestral techniques with cutting edge spa relaxation methods. In an elegant white marble décor, the aqua-fitness section includes a swimming pool, sauna and a hammam or Turkish bath. There are 37 massage, physiotherapy and hydrotherapy cabins, an analytical swimming pool, beauty salon and hair care center.
10. Oceanographic Museum and Aquarium The stunning building of the Oceanographic Museum and Aquarium lies directly on the Mediterranean shore, giving a breath-taking view to all its visitors. This amazing museum was opened in 1910 by Prince Albert I who had a passion for what lives in the ocean. This wonderful museum houses his personal collection of marine life, models taken from the Prince’s laboratory ship and crafts made from marine products. This marine world houses the first submarine in history. The basement hosts 4,000 species from the ocean and 200 types of invertebrates.

Food in Monte Carlo Some popular dishes in Monte Carlo include: Brandamincium- salted cod pounded with garlic and oil Barba-Giuan- fritters stuffed with berries for desert or meats and vegetables for dinner. Fougasses- flat, crunchy biscuits sprinkled with sugared anise seeds and flavored with rum and orange-flower water.
12. Holidays in Monte Carlo The holidays celebrated in Monte Carlo are the same as the holidays celebrated in the United States. Some of the traditions may be slightly altered but are all celebrated basically the same.
13. Fun Facts Monte Carlo is the second smallest country in the world. The smallest is Vatican City. Monaco's total area is only 2 square kilometers (1.24 square miles). Monaco's flag is the same as the flag of Indonesia. The only difference is that the Indonesian flag is wider. The red and white colors of the flag are the heraldic colors of the Grimaldi House. Monaco's biggest football team is AS Monaco which plays in the top league of French football, Ligue 1. Over half of the country's population is able to fit into the team's stadium, Stade Louis II.
14. More Fun Facts In 1956, American actress Grace Kelly married Rainier III, Prince of Monte Carlo, becoming Her Serene Highness The Princess of Monaco, or Princess Grace for short. People native to Monaco are called Monegasque. A person born in a foreign country but resident in Monaco is a Monacoian. Many James Bond movies have been filmed in Monte Carlo such as Never Say Never Again, Golden Eye and Casino Royale.
