  1. District Violence and Vandalism Report Westampton Township Public Schools Fall 2010 (Data from 9/09 thru 6/10)

  2. This report includes the following: • A comparison of the V&V statistics from previous years. • A break down of V & V incidents in each school. • A review of suspension totals related to V&V for the 2009-10 school year. • An opportunity for the public to ask questions.

  4. What Gets Reported Incidents that meet the criteria established by the NJ Department of Education. Any situation involving behaviors that meet the definition of harassment, intimidation, or bullying as reported by the victim or observer.

  5. The following is a summary of the data submitted as required by law for all known reportable incidents of Violence and Vandalism for the 2009-2010 School Year.

  6. Last school year (2009-10) there were a total of (11) reportable incidents. These reportable incidents included the following: (3) Assaults (0) Fights (4) Harassment, Intimidation, Bullying, Threat (1) Situation involving a weapon (“other” weapon) (0) Incident of theft (3) Incident of vandalism (Damage to Property) (2) Incidents involved a controlled substance (no occurrences in previous 6 years) Note: Incidents may fit into more than one category.

  7. WMS - Incident Details (2) Simple Assaults (2) Substance Abuse (Both Possession Offenses) (1) Weapon (0) Incident of a fight involving mutual physical exchange. (0) Threats of violence (0) Incidents of sexual harassment. Note: Incidents may fit into more than one category.

  8. Holly Hills – Incident Details (1) Simple Assault (also included in Damage to Property) (4) Harassment, Intimidation, Bullying, Threat (3) Damage to Property (0) Incidents of fights/assaults that involved mutual physical exchange. (0) Simple Assaults No incidents of student to student sexual harassment. Note: Incidents may fit into more than one category.

  9. Notes ~Eight different students received either an in/out-of-school suspension as a result of the 11 reportable incidents from 2009-10. ~One reportable incident resulted in a consequence categorized as “other.” ~Two Incidents were reported to the police. ~At the middle school, Saturday Detention is equivalent to an OSS, but all of the reported violations at the middle school were serious enough to warrant an OSS.

  10. Definitions Simple Assault - A person attempts to cause, or purposely, knowingly, or recklessly causes bodily injury to another. Fight - Mutual engagement in a physical confrontation that may result in bodily injury to either party. Does not include verbal confrontations. All participants should be classified as offenders. Harassment, Bullying, Intimidation, Threat*(HIBT) Any gesture, or written, verbal or physical act, or electronic or wireless communication that a reasonable person should know, under the circumstances, will have the effect of alarming (fear created by imminent danger) or harming (e.g., physically, emotionally) a student or staff member, or damaging their property; or b) has the effect of insulting or demeaning any student or group of students in such a way as to cause substantial disruption in, or substantial interference with, the orderly operation of the school. Damage to Property - Purposely, knowingly, or recklessly destroying or defacing school, contracted, or personal property, thereby causing an economic loss due to repair or replacement. Serious incidental damage to property that occurs during an act of violence should be reported.

  11. Conclusion/Miscellaneous Reportable incidents have remained at a flat level the last three years. Administration attends EVVRS training. Both the HHS and WMS continue to utilize character education programs. Note: Due to a computer glitch, (1) incident at the HHS was reported/recorded 4 times to the NJDOE. The statistics in this report will differ from what the newspaper reports in the Fall 2011.
