  1. Material Test Bench for FEA/FEM Analysis Comparison Team 8 Jeffrey Karpf Robert Vergara Yassel Valdes

  2. Problem Statement Test bench for stress and strain analysis of thin, different shape plates “Clamping System” to accommodate for different size plates and adapt to the contours of the plate boundaries Compare results to Finite Element Analysis data

  3. Design Requirements • Simple design concept which will incorporate a hydraulic system to impose stress on a test plate • Correctly simulate simply supported and fixed systems • Preserve plate boundary shape for true testing of specimen • Allow unrestricted measurement of plate deflection

  4. Conceptual Design I • Key Feature – Adjustable hydraulic position

  5. Conceptual Design II • Key Feature – Adjustable plate size

  6. Conceptual Design III • “T-Bone” tooth inserts used to accommodate different edge shapes

  7. Conceptual Design IV • Key Feature – Adjustable size and clamping system

  8. Proposed Design

  9. Conclusions and Future Work Test bench for stress and strain analysis of thin, different shape plates Perform structural analysis on proposed design Perform FEA analysis on proposed design Begin prototype building Perform testing and compare data to FEA results
