  1. Status Review

  2. Overview • Order Status • VHF/UHF Radio • Electronic Power System • Solar Arrays • Random Stuff from Pumpkin • Flight Module • 31mil PCB Clips • FAT File System • Random Stuff for Testing • Test Pod • Thermal Blanket • Solar Panel PCBs at 31mils • Timeline • Where We’ve Been • When We Plan on Arriving

  3. UHF/VHF Radio • Supplier: StenSat • Two Units thus Far • 250mW : Received September 22 • 1000mW : Ordered August 25 • Pending Unit • A prototype transmitter is working on the bench • 2000mW ERIP (5V, 770mA, η at over 50%) (production adjustable) • Second prototype TX board at StenSat November 6 • Changes to be incorporated into CubeSat circuit card after checkout • Requires complete redesign of circuit card • New parts in design • Some parts from old design now obsolete • Looking Ahead • StenSat needs to know our TX/RX frequencies • No estimated time of arrival given

  4. Electrical Power System • Supplier: Clyde Space • Pending Unit • Complete (November 6) • 2nd stage power conversion tested • Bus over-voltage protection and manual reset • Battery system (sensor, heater, battery) • Left to Do • I2C interface in testing • Multiple Peak Power Tracking (MPPT) • Looking Ahead • MPPT parts are the current hold-up (expected mid-November) • Can get a unit without MPPT today (if we want it that bad) • Prototype available December 1 • Fight units available February 1

  5. Solar Arrays • Supplier: Pumpkin / KySat • Pending Unit (Pumpkin) • Order placed sometime over the summer • Delivered 1/3 of order (one of the three faces of the cube) • Will not deliver others until a test is conducted of first face • Pending Unit (KySat / Knight Electronics) • Artwork for Pumpkin layout captured from Andrew • Very tough format to work with • Handed to local board-house for manufacturing • Looking Ahead • Expected delivery from Knight Electronics is Monday 27 November • Pumpkin status??? • Parts list captured for Pumpkin units • Schematic captured for Pumpkin units

  6. Random Stuff: Pumpkin • Supplier: Pumpkin • Flight Module • Current on-hand revision (B) does not have a working SD/MMC interface • Lead time “a few weeks” last time mentioned (August 13) • Pings placed for further information received no return • Solar PCB Clips • Clips for 31 mil boards likely will never be available • Suggest shimming 62 mil clips or spot-welding spacers onto them • FAT File System • Pumpkin distributing for hcc-embedded • Huge discount (90%) • Tests in progress at Pumpkin but “not working” • Andrew at TI developers conference in Dallas last week • No expected delivery date given

  7. Random Stuff: Testing • Vibrations Test Pod • Many conversations had with Twiggs and CalPoly management • 1st choice: CalPoly 1U “vibe unit” • 2nd choice: Stanford’s 3U P-POD • Thermal Blanket (heat and cool in vacuum chamber) • Mail sent back and forth to CalPoly since August • No details on thermal – only vac • Another ping sent November 6 with no response

  8. Where We’ve Been • February – KySat ball rolls for the first time • May 24 – Consortium press conference • June 12 – Tech Team immersion experience • Stanford interactions • NASA Ames interactions • High percentage of time-on-task • August 9 – KySat Briefing & Status Report • August 19 – Return to Kentucky • Beginning of distributed work-effort • November 1 - Kentucky University Presidents Meeting

  9. When We Plan on Arriving • December – Engineering model complete • December – Base-level functional flight software complete • January – KySat 2 team comes onboard • February – Ground stations up and tracking • March – Flight software completed • April – Flight model complete • May – Thermal and Vac final tests • June – Operational testing • July – Shipment to launch-integrator • August thru November – Monitor CalPoly testing • December 07 – On Orbit!
