  2. Aalborg harbour • The harbour of Aalborg is one of the biggest harbours in Denmark. In 2011 973 ships visited Aalborg carrying 2742000 t goods. Aalborg is situated by the Limfjord. Most of the ships and all the bigger ships are arriving Aalborg from Kattegat. The entrance of the fjord by Hals is every year deepened so also bigger ships can sail to the harbour of Aalborg. • The harbour of Aalborg is divided in more parts. Now of days most of the commercial harbour is situated to the east. From here bulk, containers, windmills and concrete panels are sailed to other parts of the country and to other countries. The old harbour situated near the city-center is now a days mostly used to public entertainment purposes. The marinas are situated in the western and northern part of the harbour.

  3. History • 1682 The town and port of Aalborg gets permission to do trade with foreign nations, which gives the port an enormous lift. The port still consists of only a few private bulwarks. • 1763 A toll is introduced to cover expenses concerning cleaning and dredging of the harbour. The harbour is deepened to 10 feet a long the quays. • 1798 The Port is separated from the towns administration and gets its own economy and for the first time a harbour commision is formed. • 1821 Nyhavn is almost done and ships start to call at the harbour. • . • 1913 A project is given the go-ahead which places a bulwark from the east harbour to the liquor factory. The project is though delayed by World War 1, and is carried out in the 1920's. • 1923 For covering the expenses of the cleaning and dredging workers at Hals Barre and lighthouse lights a long the Limfjord the Fjordudvalg is established, which is an association of the ports in the Aalborg area. Nørresundby Port joins in 1925.The expenses had until 1923 been kept by the Port of Aalborg, which in return had the right to collect tolls from the ships. This privilege was cancelled in 1901. • 1937The construction of the Oil Harbour is begun at its current location.The Oil Harbour expands rapidly up through the 1950's and 1960's. • 1959 The water depth at the Barre is increased to 8.5 meters and widened to 90 meters.In the years following the general cargo area, the tunnel basin west of the Oil Harbour and the ship harbour west of the rail road bridge is established. • 1970 The harbours in Aalborg and Nørresundby is merged following the municipal reform. • 1973The water depth at Hals Barre is increased from 8.5 meters to 9.5 meters and widened from 90 meters to 120 meters. • 1972Land in the east part of Aalborg is purchased from the state in, which is the start of the establishing the East Harbour - where in contrast to the central harbour is room for expansion. • 1974The Port of Aalborg becomes the basis harbour for Greenland traffic. Shipments go out from the East Harbour, which is why this part of the Port of Aalborg is also known as the Greenland Harbour. • 1984The container terminal is established near the Greenland Harbour. • 1985Construction of pier 2 is started.1992North Jutland Transport Center Ltd. is established at the East Harbour.The land on the south side of the fjord between the rail road bridge and Nordkraft is sold to Aalborg Municipality and planned for urban development. • 1993Grønlandshavnens Ejendomme I/S is established and the warehouses in the East Harbour is placed in this company. The company is equally owned by the Port of Aalborg Ltd. and Greenlands Home Rule.

History continued • 2000 As the first Danish port, the Port of Aalborg is from 1 January 2000 converted to a limited company. • 2002 The Port of Aalborg Ltd. founds a 100 % owned subsidiary: NTC Ejendom Ltd., which own and constructs buildings and rent them out. • 2006 The land near eastern harbour is being developed for urban activitites and feed activities are concentrated in Nørresundby and the other terminals. • 2008 The project quay at the East Harbour is strengthened to carry 1,000 tonnes loads. • 2009 A new "house of health" is established and available to the Port of Aalborgs tenants.North Europes largest mobile port crane is purchased to service the Ports customers at the East Harbour. • 2010 A formal cooperation with Aalborg University is established, especially focused on logistics via the center CELOG.The Port of Aalborg Ltd. is certified in environmental management by Det Norske Veritas in relation to the ISO 14001 standard.

  5. Containers are used to move things in. The Containerterminal is situated at the Greenland harbour. Here all freight are shipped to Greenland from Denmark. Bulk and project cargo The multi cargo terminal and the North harbour is placed in the central part of the harbour and is suitable for bulk cargo such as corn and feed, fertilizer, etc.The Bulk terminal and multi terminal is placed in the east harbour where there still are large areas for expansion of bulk activities. The Port of Aalborg has facilities to store goods indoor as well as outdoor. The bulk and mulit cargo terminal at the East Harbour is often used for disembarcation of wind turbine wings, kettles and other kinds of project- and heavy weight loads. Here close to the harbour Siemens is producing windmills – right now they are producing windmills to one of the world biggest windmill pars situated in the sea near Anholt in Katttegat. Here more than 100 windmills will produce energy to more than 400000 households. Quay facilities and areas are close by the highway and rail road, and there is the possibility of combining transportation solutions Containers

  6. Containers continued • In the East Harbour we have gathered all necessary facilities for the efficient handling of container traffic around the clock. The container activities in the East Harbour includes the cooperation of combining the various transport solutions. • The water depth is 9.30 m. and the quay is 870 meters long. The port of Aalborg is Denmark’s only destination for Greenland traffic. • Here are 78.000 m2 for handling and storage of containers and 55.000 m3 cooling and freezing capacity

  7. Tall ships race • Aalborg has hosted the Tall ship race twice , latest in 2010. They will be here again in 2015.

  13. Marinas • There are 4 marinas in Aalborg – and here are a lot of yachts. Many sailing tourists are visiting Aalborg. • One of the marianas can berth bigger yachts – and here especially older yachs maid of wood are berthed.

  14. Cruise ships • The area of the central harbour is used for public purposes. Here marine ships and cruise ships are docked. Here are restaurant, ships and public areas and a harbour pool. • This summer 9 cruise ships are going to visit our town.
