Academic Integrity

1. Academic Integrity • There are cultural differences • Except as approved by the instructor, • All work must be individually done • All sources must be cited • No notes or other assistance during tests • No double-dipping • Do not assist others in being dishonest

2. Do your own work • It is OK to get help debugging • It is OK to discuss your program with others • It is OK to look at other people's programs • It is not OK to copy code • It is not OK for someone else to do your work

3. Cite your sources • Any code or other material that you copy, • You must say where it came from, and • You must indicate exactly what part was copied • When writing programs • It is not OK to copy entire programs • It is generally OK to copy small utility routines

4. No notes during tests • You may not communicate with others during a test • You may not tell others about test contents if they are about to take the same, or a similar, test. • No notes, books, or net access, except as permitted by instructor

5. Don't double-dip • You may not turn in the same work for two different classes, unless both instructors involved agree that this is acceptable

6. Don't help others be dishonest • If you help others cheat, you are also considered to have cheated • Do not allow others to copy your programs • Do not leave your programs lying around where someone else might find and copy them.

7. If you are caught… • Your instructor is required to: • Discuss the offense with you • Penalize you (usually with an F) • Report the incident to the department chair • Your instructor may: • Request that the incident be treated as a minor or a major violation • but a second violation is always considered to be major
