  2. Describe the political problems faced by Mexico and other Latin American nations: • Simon Bolivar, a Venezuelan statesman and patriot liberated most South American nations from Spanish rule. Since the people of these nations lived in similar structured societies and share a similar history in terms of colonialism and Spanish imperialism, Bolivar thought he could unite these nations because of their commonality. • Bolivar’s vision was not a success because of the feuds among the leaders, geographic barriers and local nationalism and this all shattered the dream of unity that Bolivar had. • The political problems that Mexico and other Latin American nations faced was that the colonialism lingered and lead to their division of the nations and as well as the democracy’s failure. Power and wealth only remained with a few and the rest of the people never had any rights or even the chance to vote.
