Membership Activities’ overarching objectivesPUSH – PULL - IMPROVE • PUSH: Create awareness of the IEEE’s values to members • PULL: Regularly engage our members so that we listen and understand their needs. • IMPROVE: Identify our gaps and seek proactive ways to enhance our members’ experience

As of 31 Dec 2013 for Region 10 • 57 Sections (0 formed in 2013) • 18 Sub-sections (1 formed in 2013) • 6 Councils (0 formed in 2013) • 542 Chapters (37 formed, 10 Dissolved in 2013) • 1,070 Student branches (112 formed in 2013) • 291 Student branch chapters (89 formed in 2013) • 27 GOLD Affinity groups (0 formed, 1 Dissolved in 2013) • 25 WIE Affinity groups (0 formed, 1 dissolved in 2013) • 5 Life Member Affinity group (0 formed in 2013)

Members from 21 countries in R10 are eligible for e-membership The e-Membership option is available to new and renewing members who reside in countries where the per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP) does not exceed US$15,000 (per United Nations Guidelines). R10 WIE support Fund • Basic Policy • So far, R10 WIE supported WIE Section/SB AGs directly by selecting projects sent by them • R10 would like to support SECTIONS so that SECTIONS can promote WIE activities more comprehensively and strategically • We call for project proposals from SECTIONs. Namely, project proposers should be SECTIONs Please lead WIE activities in your SECTION!

Student Membership Statistics (Jan 2014) • 2014 January R10 Total Membership: 115,337 • 54,540 (47.28%) are Students ---- 2.28% increase! • In 2013: 48,153 (45%) were Students • 54,540 Total Student membership • 16,581 GSM members • 37, 959 Student members • 126, 541 Global Student Membership • 54,540 (43%) are in R10 • 2013: 41% . • 29% is the Global Average of Students in Regions • 22% in 2013

Student Branches Statistics (Dec 2013) • 2,516 Global Student Branches • 1059 (42%) Student Branches belongs to R10 • In 2013: 949 Student Branches (40%) belongs to R10 • 400+ Student Branches have <10 members • 200+ Student Branches have 0 members We need help. Please attend Student Retention Workshop tomorrow to know how to counter this issue!

Appendices: Project 3 – Re-activating SBs and Increase Student Retention • Project description: IEEE Region 10 has the highest number of inactive student branches among all the regions and also highest number of students not renewing their membership (retention). • How does this project help you meet your committee’s objectives?: This project will focus on conducting activities to counter this problem directly. Supporting Student branches financially (in collaboration with Sections) will kick start and we will check if the model is working • Budget breakdown: • Support 10 student branches financially in different Sections $2,000 • Project Milestones leading to completion: • Identify potential student branches with Section (April) • Award some conditional money (Jun) • Provide on-going support and guidance (July), • Monitor progress (Dec)

  28. Comparative Retention Rates Through January ‘14 … • Through the month of January, 23,386 of 94,041 student members had not renewed their membership • Student member retention is running behind last year by 1.3% • Graduate student retention is running behind by 9.6%

Young Professionals (GOLD) - 2013 updates and programs in 2014 • The new Region 10 GOLD website launched (http://www.r10gold.org) • The Clustering Project runs successfully to enable section GOLD vibrancy • R10 continues to support worthy GOLD initiatives. Grants awarded to 17 proposals out of the 23 proposals submitted. • Region 10 GOLD Individual Award 2013 was awarded to Mr. Deepu John from IEEE Singapore GOLD Affinity Group • Efforts to establish GOLD AG continues – Thailand / Vietnam • IEEE Tokyo GOLD Affinity Group bagged the new Region 10 GOLD Affinity Group Award . • Five out of six IEEE MGA GOLD Achievement Award 2013 were bagged by R10 • IEEE Region 10 S|G|W Congress, 2013 is a success.

Life Members Activities • In Region 10, 732 Life Members (54% of total 1353 LMs) are affiliated with 5 existing LMAGs. • These LMAGs (New South Wales, Bombay, Tokyo, South Australia, Kansai, in forming order) are as a whole active enough. • Sections are encouraged to form LMAG. Victorian Section and Nagoya Section are very much interested in forming LMAG. • It is important to encourage elderly members to obtain Life Members Status in the future.

IBSC Activities 2013 highlights: • IEEE R10 IB&SC Section Survey – completed • To work with the Sections to identify the local benefit schemes, to improve upon them if necessary, and to recommend new benefit schemes that are of interests to the members. • The winners are: • Singapore Section: the most innovative and excellent local benefit schemes • Kerala Section: the best proposals for local benefit scheme. • IEEE R10 IB&SC Member Survey – completed • To find out from its members the types of benefits and services that they would like to have in their Sections. Four winners were identified. 2014 proposed activities: • Identify and recommend 3-4 proposals to be implemented by Sections schemes with limited financial support from R10. • Propose and implement 2-3 family/lifestyles benefits such as discounts to Singapore Science Centre, Singapore Museums, Singapore Zoo, Jurong Bird Park, Night Safari, Gardens by the Bay, and etc. Corporate rates are available for IEEE members at the Park Avenue Rochester, Singapore for all IEEE members.
