Different types of schools 1st school: Primary school 2nd School: Hauptschule (junior high school, ages 10-15) Realschule (junior high school, ages 10-16, youget an intermediate schoolcertificate) Grammarschool Comprehensiveschool (Depending on youraccomplishment) Who decides on what school you go to after primary school? It depends on the German federal state (16 federal states in Germany as a total): in some of them you get a teacher recommendation, which helps the parents decide where to send the child(bsp: lower saxony: can still choose freely) in other states the primary school decides which secondary school you will be attending.

  3. Duration of schooldays How many years do you go to educational facilities? (volantarily) Kindergarden 3 to 6 years old 9 to 13 years (primary + particular school) Primary school -> 4 years Grammar school -> 9 years or Realschule -> 6 years or Hauptschule -> 5 years Or comprehensive school -> 5-9 years How old are you when you come to school? 5 to 7 years old-> primary school

Specifics in school When do you have to repeat the year? either the teachers decide on a meeting if you have to repeat a year or your parents decide Students who repeat the year for the first time need to go in a lower grade Students who repeat the year for the second time need to change the school Terminations -> exams Grammar school (Abitur/A levels) -> 4 written exams, 1 oral exam Realschule -> 2 written exams, 1 oral exam Hauptschule -> 1 written exam, 1 oral exam

Specifics in school 2 What do children with special needs do? there are special schools for kids with special needs The kids with special needs can also go to a regular school where their needs are addressed. Are there any speaking classes for foreigners? there are classes in some schools just for foreigners where they learn to speak German and do other subjects, too.

Vacations and lenght of a schoolyear Which vacations do we have and how long are they? we have summer (6 weeks), fall, Christmas and Easter vacation ( each 2 weeks) sometimes we also have feasts which are bank holidays too How long is a school year? that's different in each federal state but in average it is about thirty-eight weeks

  8. Timetable 2 Main Subjects Maths, German, English and your second foreign language counts to the main subjects. Languages You start to learn English in primary school, in the 3rd class. In the 6th class you need to choose a second foreign language. You can choose between French, Latin or Spanish. In some schools you also choose between polnish, turkish or russian Religious Education At our school you can choose between Protestant religious education, Catholic religious education and philosophy.
