  2. Welcome Parents! • Welcome to our classroom! • The goals for Open House: • To help you understand the work your child will be doing throughout the school year. • To explain my expectations of each student. • To share how you as parents can support your child’s learning.

About Ms. Griffin • Team Leader • Highly qualified certification for grades 4-8 • This is my 11th year teaching. • Awarded ‘Master Teacher’ Award • Graduated with honors from Georgia Institute of Technology • B.S. in Science, Technology, and Culture • Minor in Psychology • Minor in History of Technology

Homework • Students MUST have access to a printer. • Homework will be given Monday-Thursday and sometimes on Friday • Homework is due at the beginning of class on the assigned day. • Per the D.A.T.E Handbook, late homework will be accepted for a penalty. • 1 day late- 80% • 2 days late- 70% • 3 or more days late, the final grade will be a zero.

  9. Class Rules • Be respectful and kind. • Be responsible. • Pay attention and listen. • Be on task. • Be prepared. • Follow directions the first time. • Be a good collaborative group member/partner. • Be organized. • Be a self-starter.

Auction Behavioral System • Payday: Every Monday each student receives $500 in their check book. • Bonuses: Students may earn money by doing exceptional work, helping the teacher, being a good citizen, etc. These bonuses will be in $50 increments. For example, Sally’s group worked really well together in centers. They earned $100 bonus. I saw Ralph picking up trash during his recess, so I gave him a $250 bonus. • Deductions: Deductions take place when a student has broken a rule. Reason for deductions include, but are not limited to: excessive talking, forgetting homework, off task behavior, etc. Deductions can also be in $50 increments. For example, John forgot his homework so he had to deduct $50. Tia and Sarah were goofing off during centers, they each deducted $100. • Auction: At the end of every nine weeks there will be an auction. This auction consists of old toys, books, or games that students no longer play with at home and would like to donate. The auction may also include baked goods

  12. eSis, Progress Reports, Report Cards • Please check eSis at least once a week. • Please check your child’s Agenda daily for homework, notes, and conduct marks. • Progress Reports will be sent home every 4½ weeks. The purpose is to show progression – it is not a Report Card. • Report Cards are issued twice a year – at the end of each Semester.

Uniforms • Boys- a green blazer, khaki pants, white oxford short/long sleeve shirts, a green tie, and brown or black shoes. • Girls- a green blazer, khaki skirts, skorts or jumpers, white Peter Pan blouse with green cross tie, and brown or black shoes with white knee high socks. • No Capri pants or shorts may be worn. • Spirit shirts may be worn on Fridays with a green blazer, khaki bottoms, and brown or black shoes. • No shorts

  14. Morning Routine • School begins at 7:45 AM • All students need to report to their HOMEROOM by 8:00 AM. Students who arrive to class after 8:00 AM will need to get a tardy pass before coming to class. • Students will need to go to their locker BEFORE coming to homeroom everyday. Book bags are not allowed in the classroom. • Students must be in their COMPLETE uniform every day. We will be checking uniforms every morning in homeroom. Please make sure to check your uniform in the mirror before coming to school.

Daily Schedule (first 4½ weeks) • 7:45AM-8:00AM Homeroom • 8:00AM-9:00AM P.E./Environment/Art/Music/Tech. • 9:00AM- 10:45AM 1st Period • 10:45AM- 11:20AM 2nd Period • 11:20AM-11:50AM Lunch • 11:50AM- 1:00PM 2nd Period cont’d. • 1:00PM- 1:15PM Recess • 1:15PM-2:50PM 3rd Period • 2:45PM-3:00PM Dismissal
