Photo credit: Farm with a View Although it is not a lettuce, kale grows in a similar way. Kale is fresh year round because it can handle cold temperatures, while many other crops cannot. Kale is a member of the brassica family which includes collard greens, brussels sprouts, cauliflower and broccoli.
