  4. High Rise Lessons • Conduct complete size up • Keep Stairways clean of smoke • Protect in place more often • More emphasis on a back up line • Hook up attack lines in safe area • Maintain life line to stairwell

  5. High Rise Lessons • Careful with Elevators • Provide regular progress reports • Establish RIT early • Incident Scene Discipline • Use of Non-Fire Resources • Connect with facility personnel

  6. First Alarm Priorities • Prompt investigation of the fire • Insure the safety of building occupants • Begin an initial fire attack • Any indication of a working fire will require additional companies.

  7. First Alarm Assignment • Command • First in Captain … then the BC • Fire Attack: Two Crews • Ventilation: One Crew • Lobby: One Crew Make adjustments based on reality!

  8. Occupant Life Safety • Stairwells • Protect in Place • May be the best plan • May not have resources to evacuate • Evacuation • Separate stairway from attack

  9. Command • First in Captain • Size up, initial assignments, request resources • FAST ATTACK • Battalion Chief • Assume Command, Establish clear objectives, Organize resources • Accountability managed at the Command Post

  10. Fire Attack • First Engine assigned • Entire first crew to fire floor • Hook up the floor below • Second Engine assigned • Engineer Pump Standpipe • Crew reports to Attack

  11. Ventilation • Pressurize stairwells • Inspect Stairwells • Ventilate fire floor • Establish exhaust opening on floor • Close exhaust opening in stairwell • Breaking glass

  12. Lobby Control • Control Lobby • Control Elevators • Control HVAC • Control vertical access • Gather Keys • Building Engineer

  13. Elevators • Use must be approved by IC • Phase 1 • Recall of elevators • FF Switch outside car • Off/on/bypass • Phase 2 • FF Switch inside car • Off/on/hold

  15. Staging • Personnel, supplies, and equipment • One – two floors below fire • Gathers intelligence • Briefs crews

  17. Base • Parking of Engines • Deliver needed equipment to Lobby • Directs incoming crews to Lobby • Gathers passports for Command

  18. Stairwell • Moves equipment to Staging • May have to get it off Engines

  19. On Site Multi-Companies • A Shift – May 19, 0900 hrs @ Providence • B Shift – May 20, 2000 hrs @ RVMC • C Shift – May 14, 0900 hrs @ RVMC

  20. Tour the Building • Be prepared for a fire at or above the third level
