Action Plan Guidelines • This is your working document • What do you want to accomplish • Who is going to do what • When is it going to get done • What resources did you see this week that you’d like to adapt for use • What resources do you need for you plan • Tell us what helped you most; what’s missing, what needs improvement • As you work, post your Action Plan on the Ed Academy Community so that others may observe your work • Save your presentation on this USB Memory Stick. • Please Title and name the file, identifying your location • Do not write or save over the template, keep it for reference. • A report out of accomplishments is due Nov. 15 • Work with your Intel Education Manager to submit • Note: sample completed Action Plans from 2008 are on the website http://www.intel.com/education/isef/isef/overview.htm

  3. High Level Goals Long term goals (3-5 years) Increase student access and participation in classroom based science inquiry in PPS. Increase the value and support by the community of science research in PPS. Increase the number of schools and students participating in science fairs to include all PPS high schools within 3 years. Short term goals (1-2 years) Begin the process of garnering support by the district and business community for science education as celebrated through Portland Public School Science Expo. Retain currently participating schools and, increase the number of students they are working with and add 1-2 more schools. Identify and provide support for PPS Science Expo lead teachers/coaches in each of the schools

Objectives • How will you know you succeeded? • Please list the results you want to see • Examples • All 10 PPS High Schools will have Science Research Clubs and entrants in the PPSSE by 2011 • Research consultants will be in place and act as resources for teachers and students in each high school by 2011 • Systemic curriculum changes underway in the integration of scientific inquiry in the PPS classrooms • Business and community partners continue to donate sufficient funds and support to sustain the program • PPS Science Expo is seen by the community as the celebration of the science research process of their students as evidenced by volunteer participation increasing to 30 by 2011 • PPS students are represented at ISEF, 5 students in 2010, 10 in 2011, 15 in 2012

Intel ISEF Educator Academy Reflection - To be done Thursday • As a result of your participation in the 2009 Educator Academy, reflect on your experience. • Highlight what your team felt was the key learning from the Educator Academy • The fabulous connections we made with educators and their curriculum. Sharing our passion about teaching science with people from all over the world. • Which Shop Talks were the most beneficial for your team? • Bill Rigney, Cora Beth Abel and Sheila Porter • What types of Shop Talks were missing? IDK • Big props to Carlos, Chris and Karen and Intel for such a rich experience!!!
