Step 1: Planning “Volunteers need to feel productive, do work that challenges them, and have an opportunity to grow.” • Mission Statement • Involve members at all ages • Develop Volunteer Program • How can you get all ages interested in volunteering? • Many Baby Boomers like a more active role, than just wrapping silverware. • Define Volunteer Positions • What do you need help with that volunteers can provide? Lunch, Daily Tasks, Planning and Hosting Events, Technology, Advertising? • Describe Positions • General Assistant – answer phone, daily sign in • Lunch Assistants • Skill-Specific Volunteers – marketing, hostess • Pro bono Volunteers – physicians or other services that come to the center free of charge

Step 2: Recruiting • Use Mass Media (TV, Radio, Newspapers, Bulletins) • Use Current Volunteers to be advocates • Social Media & Websites • Booths & Exhibits at Events • Partner with schools, colleges, and clubs that can have students do community service hours at your center “Recruiting will also build the public image of your organization.”
