  5. Context • Camfield Estates-MIT Creating Community Connections Project INFRASTRUCTURE: - State-of-the-art computers & software - High-speed Internet - Comprehensive training - Neighborhood technology center - Web-based community building system

  6. Background • Camfield Estates, Roxbury, MA • 102 units, approximately 300 residents • Predominantly African-American (75%) • 32% Hispanic / 68% Non-Hispanic • Camfield Tenants Association (CTA)

  7. Timeline Round I (33 families) • August 2000 - Preliminary Interviews • September 2000 - Recruitment • December 2000 - Introductory Courses Completed Round II (?) • January 2001 - Recruitment

  8. Non-Participation • Non-Participation in Round I • Miscommunication/misunderstanding • Skepticism • Already owned a computer • Non-Participation in Round II • Too many responsibilities • Health-related • Lack of relevance
