STAFF-SC / FGM Comparison Cross_Calibration Workshop ESTEC, Noordwijk, 16 May 2006 P. Robert, CETP • A. Reminder on previous problem • (see Cross_Calibration Workshop ESTEC, Noordwijk, 2-3 Feb 2006) B. Today News Conclusions P. Robert, Cross Cal WS, 2006-05-16, ESTEC
I.3 Bperp SC1 and SC2 1) STAFF < FGM, Diff=0.5 nT or 8% Sometimes up to 20% When strong DC field Remain to be solved Any ways are currently investigated FGM 2) STAFF Pb on S/C # 1 Problem has been identified: Abnormal multiplicative constant factor on SC1 transfer function => On the way to be solved STAFF P. Robert, Cross Cal WS, 2006-05-16, ESTEC
III.3 ZOOM on Filtered Bx,By,Bz, SC2 Best fit: About 5-10 % But not everywhere May be in way to be solved : New calibration method Is under development See talk of L.Mirioni P. Robert, Cross Cal WS, 2006-05-16, ESTEC
Fs IV. Background noise Level Fs IV.2 Bz SC1 To be clarified Sometimes factor 1.6 to 1.8 Frequency dependant Statistical studies must be done Inter spectra comparison not easy P. Robert, Cross Cal WS, 2006-05-16, ESTEC
CONCLUSION - Old basic problems : a) Why perp DC. Field estimated from STAFF SC1 is less that SC2,3,4 ? Problem has been identified: Abnormal multiplicative constant factor on SC1 transfer function => On the way to be solved b) Why perp DC field estimated from STAFF is less than FGM measurement ? . True for perp. DC field, . But also true on the entire spectra, . And also true on the filtered waveforms We have to look on the 4 transfer functions, and carrefully study the onboard calibration Still true : some hope are expected with the new calibration method and the onboard calibration not yet exploited - A large amount of work remain to be done: a) Study other cases, in other regions of space, in other epochs With or without strong DC field b) See if preliminary conclusions remains the same Work in progress, but not yet finished !
