Staff Development aims to: • co-ordinate the delivery of a cross-college training plan to meet articulated needs; • provide an effective cross-college induction for all new staff; • structure in-house staff development activities to meet clearly defined training objectives; • develop links with IiP organisations to provide industrial work placements for teaching staff; • evaluate the outcomes of training and development activities and respond appropriately Support staff to develop their performance to improve teaching & learning

  4. Staff Development Activities • Internal programme of activities • Staff initiated events • External short courses • Staff Training Days • Long course applications • Research projects • Industrial work placements • Fee remitted courses at HCFHE • Employee Development Fund

  5. Complete Staff Development Application Form, signed by your line manager and Director Complete evaluation form after the event, reviewing your objectives with your line manager Applying for an External Course Discuss the opportunity with your line manager Make arrangements for cover Forward to Staff Development, with at least 3 weeks notice Staff Development will confirm acceptance and book place on course Send application form and completed booking form to Staff Development Claim expenses

Research Committee • management and allocation of the long course staff development budget • 80% funding to a maximum of £1,000 • allocate funds for specific research projects • action/practitioner research • creative and scholarly work, writing articles for publication • primary academic research which may contribute to the academic field • consultancy with external agencies

  7. Appraisal Scheme • 6 – 12 months after completion of probationary period • Annual • Line management model • Observation of teaching and learning contributes to appraisal • Continuous professional development is integral • Appraisal is confidential to designated parties

  8. Continuous Professional Development (CPD) • All teaching staff are provided with a Continuous Professional Development Portfolio. • The purpose of the Portfolio is to facilitate continuous development through learning and work. • The CPD Plan and CPD Record belong to the individual and should be used as working documents through out the year. • The process should help prepare for the annual appraisal meeting and provide important evidence for applications to the Teaching Pay Initiative.
