What can parents do to help their child? • Xtramath.org • Login/Password will be sent home soon • Have them read or read to them! • A child who reads 20 extra minutes a night encounters 1,800,000 more words each year. • A child who reads 1 extra minute each night encounters 8,000 more words each year. • The more words a child sees, hears, and uses, the easier comprehending text will be.

What can parents do to help their child? • Be sure your child has mastered the basic math facts: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. • Make math real by connecting to every day life: • When you go out to eat – have him figure out the tip. • When you go shopping – have her figure out the discount or tax. • Explain words like debit, withdrawal, deposit, • If baking – let them figure out how to double or half a recipe
