  3. Nach dem 2. Weltkrieg • Forderung der maltesischen Regierung nach vollständiger Unabhängigkeit von der brit. Krone

  4. 1964 → Neue Verfassung: konstitutionelle Monarchie unter der brit. Krone im Commonwealth ofNations → katholische Kirche wurde Staatskirche → vollständige Unabhängigkeit von Malta

  5. 1964 – 1971 → konservative Regierungen → westliche Allianz: Nato & EG → enges Verhältnis mit GB • Beinahe Zweiparteiensystem → MLP (Malta Labour Party) → NP (Nationalist Party)

  6. 1971 → neuer Premierminister; Dominic Mintoff(MLP) → Blockfreie, neutralistische Aussenpolitik • 1974 → neue Verfassung → parlamentarische Republik → Abkopplung der maltesischen Lira vom brit. Pfund

  7. 1984 - 1990 → Rücktritt von Premierminister Mintoff → verbessertes Verhältnis zu Westeuropa → Nationalist Party bestimmt die Politik Maltas → Erster Aufnahmeantrag an die EU → Nach Wahlsieg der MLP wurde der Aufnahmeantrag zurückgezogen

  8. 2004 → Aufnahme von Malta in die EU → Beitritt zum Schengener Abkommen • 2008 → Einführung des Euros mit eigenen Münzen

  9. Malta heute • Präsident: George Abela ( MLP) • Malta ist für die Abschaltung aller AKW‘s in der EU
