  6. Structure of System • Axial vs Appendicular • Types of Bones- • Long-femur • Short-wrist • Flat-ribs, scull (protector bones) • Irregular-vertebrae Use the models to ID types of bones • Cartilage-strong flexible connective tissue

  7. Types of joints • Ball and socket-wide range of motion • Pivot-rotation • Ellipsoidal-all types of movement except pivotal • Hinge-bend and straighten Find examples for types of joints

  8. Problems with the System • Fractures • Osteoporosis • Scoliosis • Joint Injuries-dislocation, torn cartilage, bunion, bursistis, arthritis • Repetitive Motion Injury-carpel tunnel Share personal experiences with fractures and joint injuries! Growth plate concerns????
