School Support Staff Negotiating Body • Support staff wanted their own negotiating body • Years of trade union pressure resulted in the formation of SSSNB - gaining legal status • Body due to submit proposals for national conditions framework/national core contract • June 2010 – new government elected • SSSNB put into the long grass • FOCUS NOW ON ACADEMIES!!

Academies • 2 weeks after the general election government writes to all schools - invite to apply for academy status • Government offer head teachers: • Freedom from local authority control • Ability to set own pay and conditions • Ability to change length of school day/term • Reverse of SSSNB - proposals will lead to weakening of terms & conditions • Salaries, hours, pensions, redeployment - all under threat

False Allegations • 1 in 3 of all staff in schools have had a false allegation made against them • Staff affected say their lives were shattered because of false claims • GMB calls for head teachers to support staff under investigation • If an allegation is made against you then you need a solicitor – we will provide one • Never attend an interview alone or accept a caution – your career will be over!
