  3. Today’s Goals9/22/14 • Review the PLC model • Identify strategies that work (or could work) for teaching elements of writing in your content area • Identify concerns related to ILC implementation in order to better support students

  4. PLCs – is “the work” working for students? ILCs – “the work” Set performance/ proficiency targets (goal setting) Instructional practices Collect data ANALYZE STUDENT WORK Collegial discussions Formative & summative assessments Modify instructional practices Differentiate & enrich Reflection

  5. Whatis a PLC? • A systematic process in which educators work interdependently to analyze and impact professional practice in order to improve collective results • The premise is that the key to improved learning for students is continuous, job-embedded learning for educators

  7. Guiding Questions • What are we teaching? • How are we teaching it? • How do we know if students are learning?

  8. Students will be able to … Write informative/explanatory texts, including the narration of historical events, scientific procedures /experiments, or technical processes. “Anchor Standard” Share with students!

  9. Departmental PLC Meeting • Department chair will be facilitator • Assign timekeeper & recorder(s) • Use materials at your table to help collect ideas • “60-second rule”

  10. Reminder: We want students to become better writers. To do this, they must write and write and write, in all content area classes.
