  1. Darwinism By: Ambrose Robitaille-Brown

  2. What is Darwinism? • It is a theory of evolution: All species deprive from their ancestors • Survival of the fittest

  3. Theorist • Anaximander (610-546 BC) • Theory: “Animal came from moist environment, And man evolved from a fish” • 1809-1882 • English Naturalist • Educated at The University of Edinburg Medical School

  4. Darwin’s Ideas 1. Animals and plants are sometimes born with features that are different from those their parents but that they can pass on to their own offspring (random- variations) known as mutations 2. Animals produce more offspring than can survive therefore creating a struggle for existence ***Variations can give a species a better chance of surviving Evolution is not designed for purpose it is chance not purposeful

  5. Ideology - Imperialism Imperialism: A policy of extending a countries power and influence through diplomacy or military force Colonization • Ex. • North America • Africa • India

  6. Ideology - Capitalism Winston Churchill: The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries

  7. Ideologies- Racism

  8. Supporters of Darwinism Constantine Adolf Hitler John W. Booth John D. Rockefeller Henry Ford

  9. Theorist Opposition George Mavrodes- Contemporary Philosopher Michael J. Behe- Biochemist Stephen Jay Gould- Contemporary Biologist Henri Bergson- Philosopher Fossils do not support Darwin’s theory of evolution because there is such a large gap between records The gaps show that evolution generally occurs by jumps Naturalist “explicable entirely in terms of natural law without reference to a divine intention or intervention” Theistic “a divine teleology in this process, a divine direction at each crucial stage in accordance with divine plan or intention” “The process of evolution is not blind and random but directed and purposeful” The complexity of human organism, including human beings cannot be explained by random processes but require the admission of “intelligent design”
