  1. How to reduce your carbon footprint? By: Jess Conboy

For individuals • Turn off your lights, TV's, DVD players, computers when not in use. • Turn down central heating. • Turn down water heating setting • Fill dish washer and washing machine with a full load- saves on water, electricity, and on laundry detergent. • Do weekly shopping in one trip. • Fill pots with only as much water as you need for cooking.

Saving on your energy bill • Use fit saving energy light bulbs. • Install thermostatic valves on your radiators. • Install cavity wall installation • Replace old fridge/ freezer (if it’s 15 years old) • Replace your old boiler with a new energy efficient condensing boiler. Doesn’t save energy Saves energy

  4. Transportation • Car pooling • Use a bike, or public transportation as much as you can, to help save on gas. • Purchase a more fuel efficient car. • Take a long trip to get all your items instead of taking a bunch of little ones. • Try to reduce the number of flights you take.

  5. AT school • Use a Reusable water bottle instead of a bunch of plastic water bottles. • Recycle old papers in stead of throwing them away. • Separate paper and plastic garbage. • Photo copy on both sides of the paper so you don’t waste paper. • At the end of each day you can unplug power strips and make sure the lights are off • Turn off unnecessary air conditioning system or heating system when no one’s there.

  6. AT HOME • Use more efficient light bulbs • Completely full loads of wash to save water • Buy organic or local foods • Turn things off when not in use • Lower indoor heating and cooling by one degree. • Plant a tree • Use a canvas bag when grocery shopping, instead of paper or plastic. • Use recycled wood chips.
