  1. Early Beginnings: Prehistoric and Medicine By: Madison Campbell, Ashley Ferrara, Joseph Kim, Christian Ponson.

  2. Important Dates Chinese used acupunture to relieve pain and congestion. Little is known about Chinese remadies.

  3. Politics First, during the prehistoric times in medicine, there wasn’t any politics. Second, the only politics were the king and his people. If his people didn’t listen, the king would just kill them. Some of the most famous kings were; Julius Caesar, Nebuchadnezzar, Hammurabi, and Ch’in Wang.

  4. Religion In the Greek and Roman times, they believed in deities, or gods. They sculpted statues and praised them everyday. Chinese religion was about the people that believed in Kong Zi and made sacrifices to him everyday to forgive them of their actions that day. Egyptians also worshipped deities to.

  5. Economy Agricultural Economy was the most common economy in the prehistoric times. Also that the Kings ordered what products to trade, buy, and sell. The most common trading transport was by water.

  6. Hippocrates Born in 460 BC and died in 377 BC. He was born on the Greek island Kos. He believed in the Greek Mythology. He was the first to believe that disease was from natural causes. The medicine Hippocrates made was humble and passive. It didn’t give the patient any side effects and help them relax.

  7. Alcmaeon Born around 510 BC. His experiments were with animals when he cut the nerve behind the eye to study vision. He also discovered that the brain was an organ of the mind. He also stated that the eye contains fire and water.

  8. Plants Digitalis- used to slow and strengthen the heart rate. Quinine- from the bark of the cinchona tree, it is a fever reducer and prevents malaria. Atropine- made from “night-shade” trees and relieves muscle spasms and relaxes muscles during surgery. Morphine- made from opium poppy; highly addictive.
