  3. Aim and goal of the course The aim • All our students within TC shall meet mentors who all have attended and done the ”certified mentor” – course. The goal • The mentors shall feel safe in their role as mentors and be familiar with the educations from which the students come. • The mentors should be professional in their role as mentors and as such be able to be enthusiastic and motivating.

  4. Program • Meeting 1 • Time: 8th of Sept 2010 kl 08.30-16.00 (incl lunch) • Content: Information abouttechnical college and on safty. Learning in workplace settings and the roles of the teacher, the workplace mentor and the student. • Meeting 2 • Time: 21th of Sept 2010 kl 08.30-12.30 (incl lunch) • Content: The workplace mentor as a key person – the tools for the workplace mentor. Learning goals in concrete form – documents that guide and control the content of learning. The three part dialogue – a dialogue focusing reflection. • Meeting 3 • Time: 7th of October 2010 08.30-16.30 (incl lunch) • Content: The road to getting professional competence – motivation. How to coach. Learning styles. Sharing of experiences with “older” certified mentors and students. Study visit to ” Swedish match” company.

Information aboutTIWOLTE • TIWOLTE (transfer integration of workplace learning in vocational teacher education) • är ett EU-projekt vars syfte är att planera, genomföra och utvärdera handledarutbildningar för arbetsplatsförlagt lärande inom olika branscher och på olika skolnivåer i Tyskland, Irland, Cypern och Sverige.

The mentor’s role • Be responsible for the student’s social- and learning situation at the workplace • Support the student at the workplace • With the help of the student’s teacher engage in the course objectives and grading criteria • Together with the student’s teacher identify the courses and parts of courses that can be carried out at the workplace • Talk to the student and help him/her reflect on the learning process • Together with the teacher evaluate the knowledge and skills that the student has achieved at the workplace • Together with the teacher grade the courses that have been accomplished

  13. Take responsibility for his/her learning process Participate actively in the follow-up meetings Follow the rules and routines of the workplace Notify the workplace in case of absency Talk to the mentor or teacher if something is wrong The student’s role

The teacher’s role • Together with the student make an individual curriculum. • Go through course objectives and grading criteria with the student and the mentor. • Together with the mentor identify the courses and parts of courses that can be accomplished at the workplace. • Be responsible for those courses, or parts of courses that are best carried out in school
