This resource explores the emigration of Scots during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It identifies two main reasons for their departure—economic hardship and political issues—along with two key groups that facilitated their emigration. We discuss how newspapers, pamphlets, and posters played a crucial role in convincing people to leave Scotland. Additionally, the challenging conditions on overcrowded ships and the support received through financial assistance will be examined. A creative activity encourages students to visualize ship conditions through crafting.
