  2. The Eiffel Tower is an iron tower built on the Champ de Mars beside the River Seine in Paris, France. It is the tallest structure in Paris and one of the most recognized monuments in the world. Named after its designer, engineer Gustave Eiffel, it is the most visited monument in the world; 6,428,441 people visited the tower in 2005 and more than 200,000,000 since its construction. Including the 24 m antenna, the structure is 324 m high (since 2000), which is equivalent to about 81 levels in a conventional building. The structure of the Eiffel Tower weighs 7,300 tons. The tower is actually painted three different colors in order to make it look the same color. The colors change from dark to lightfrom top to bottom, but it looks the same because of the background

  3. History The structure was built between 1887 and 1889 as the entrance arch for the Exposition Universelle, a World's Fair marking the centennial celebration of the French Revolution. The tower was inaugurated on 31 March 1889, and The Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII of England, opened the tower on 6 May . Eiffel Tower underconstruction in July 1888 Three hundred workers joined together 18,038 pieces of puddled iron (a very pure form of structural iron), using two and a half million rivets, in a structural design by Maurice Koechlin.

  4. The first and second levels are accessible by stairs and lifts.A ticket booth at the south tower base sells tickets to use the stairs which begin at that location.   6. The Eiffel Tower at night is one of the great sights of Paris and shouldn't be missed. The gold lighting highlights the delicacy of the steelwork in a way that is missed in daylight.

Surroundings around the Eiffel Tower Champ de Mars - is a large public green-space in Paris, France, located in the 7th arrondissement, between the Eiffel Tower to the northwest and the École Militaire to the southeast. The park is named after the Campus Martius of Rome. In English Champs de Mars means "Field of Mars", from Mars the Roman god of war, from its original use for military training.
