The eiffel tower • Located on the Champ de Mars in Paris, France, the Eiffel Tower is one of the most well known structures in the world. • The Eiffel Tower was originally built as the entrance arch for the World's Fair in 1889. • It is named after Gustave Eiffel, whose company was in charge of the project.

  3. 1889 World Exhibition • The Eiffel Tower was built for the World Exhibition in 1889, held in celebration of the French Revolution in 1789. • The construction was only meant to last for the duration of the Exposition, but it still stands today Today.

  4. The eiffel tower • In 2004, the tower’s first floor was converted into an ice skating rink. It has also been the site of the world’s largest advertisement at the time • The Eiffel Tower is painted every 7 years, using an estimated 60 tons of paint. It takes between 15 and 18 months to paint the entire structure. • The structure sways by several inches during high winds, although it deliberately decided to build it of steel to show that steel was just as strong as stone.
