Paragraph 6 • 1 phenomenon (n): a fact, event, or image that strikes one’s attention and attracts interest (it’s phenomenal!) • 2 plateau (n): a plateau is a large area of high and fairly flat land • 3 in/significant (adj): not important, without meaning • 4 geometric (adj): having simple, regular lines or forms (geometry)

  4. Paragraph 7 and 8 • 1 be related to/ be associated with • 2 aerial (adj): above ground; in the air • 3 scarce (adj): not enough • 4 enigma (n): a mystery, a puzzle • 5 sign up (v): if you sign up for an organization or if an organization signs you up, you sign a contract officially agreeing to do a job or course of study • 6 sensation (n): the general feeling or impression caused by a particular experience; something that causes great excitement or interest

  5. Paragraph 7 and 8 • 7 witness, witnessing (v): to see, to observe an incident • 8 marvel (n): things that people have done, or that have happened, which are very unexpected or surprising. (v) if you marvel at something, you express your great surprise, wonder, admiration; marvellous (adj, also spelled marvelous): if you describe something as marvellous, you are emphasizing that they are very good

  6. Paragraph 7 and 8 • 9 defy (v): if something defies description or understanding, it is so strange, extreme, or surprising that it is almost impossible to understand or explain
