  3. ATP Composition • ATP is made up of: • Adenine base • Ribose sugar • 3 phosphate groups The energy comes from the bonds between the phosphates.

  4. How is energy released from ATP? • The bond between the 2nd and 3rd phosphates are broken. • The energy released can be used for: • Active transport • Muscle contraction • Protein synthesis
